Zen Master Seung Sahn
Zen Master Seung Sahn is the founder of the international Kwan Um Zen School and the 78th patriarch of its lineage in Korean Buddhism. Zen Master Seung Sahn was the first Korean master to live and teach in the West. He came to the USA in 1972 and called founded the Providence Zen Center, the nucleus of today’s International Kwan Um School of Zen. He first taught in the USA, then in Eastern and Western Europe. In the last 15 years of his life, he devoted himself to spreading Zen, particularly in Korea and China. Zen Master Seung Sahn died in 2004 in Seoul, Korea.
Zen master Seung Sahn gave several of his master students the transmission to become Zen masters, others he gave the teaching authorization (Inka) as Dharma masters.
