to the one-week YMJJ with Zen Master Gu Ja
The intensive Zen meditation retreat, traditionally known as Yong Maeng Jong Jin (“jumping like a tiger while sitting”), is a period of sustained practice designed to help us realize our true nature and help all beings. These periods of concentrated practice are at the heart of Zen training and are suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners. They are an excellent opportunity to free the mind from habitual thinking and support the practice in everyday life. The daily routine, conducted in silence, includes sitting, chanting, walking and bowing meditation as well as work exercises. Vegetarian meals are served in traditional temple style. At regular intervals, YMJJ is led by a Zen master or Ji Do Poep Sa Nim (“Dharma Master”), who gives lectures and Kong-an teaching interviews. Registration is now open.

Retreat rules
All participants are expected to abide by the following rules and maintain community harmony during the retreat.
1. the retreat takes place in silence. Zen master Seung Sahn said: “Silence is better than holiness.” Bodhidharma sat silently in Sorim for nine years. Silence deepens our practice and benefits us and others. If your work does not require you to speak, silence will be helpful.
2. arrive on time for all practice sessions, Dharma talks and meals. Always enter the Dharma room on time when you hear the five-minute moktak. Do not enter or leave the Dharma room during meditation or chanting except to go to or return from an interview.
3. walking meditation is the continuation of sitting meditation. You can leave the Dharma room during walking meditation if necessary. When you re-enter the Dharma room, do so quietly at your correct place on the line.
4. everyone should attend all exercise sessions, including meals and work time. If you are sick and unable to attend, please notify the main yoga teacher (HDL) before the exercise session you will miss.
5 Please do not move during meditation. If you are tired or your legs hurt, please bow slightly and stand behind your cushion.
6. no cell phones, PCs or other communication devices may be used during the retreat.
7. the HDL controls the opening and closing of the windows and the lighting of the Dharma room. If you have a problem or request, let the HDL know.
8. do not wear brightly colored clothing during the retreat. Do not wear hats in the Dharma room.
9 Smoking is not permitted in the Zen Center. Please go to the designated area.
10 Please do not read any personal books during the retreat, only the books and magazines provided by the Zen Center library. Read these during the breaks and then put them back on the shelf.
11 During working hours, everyone has a task to do every day, especially cleaning the temple and working in the kitchen. Working time is part of formal practice. Please do the assigned work with mindfulness.
12. if you have any health problems or special dietary requirements, please notify the Temple in advance. (All meals are vegetarian, it is not possible to cater to the special dietary needs of each participant).
