The Kwan Um School of Zen Germany is part of the international Kwan Um School of Zen which was founded by Zen Master Seung Sahn in 1972 and has more than 100 Zen Centers and groups worldwide.
The Kwan Um School of Zen Germany was founded in 1990 in Berlin and consists today of five Zen Centers and groups. It represents Korean Zen Buddhism as it has been taught by Zen Master Seung Sahn and his Master Students. We practice Zen in order to experience clarity and compassion in everyday life.
The Kwan Um School of Zen Germany is a registered nonprofit association.
We practice the following forms of Zen meditation: sitting, walking, reciting sutras, and bowing. During the kongan interviews we receive teachings from our Masters.
We meditate, sing and work together and so attain step by step clarity and a compassionate mind which is able to help all beings, moment to moment. We practice with special intensity during Zen retreats, called Yong Maeng Jong Jin (Korean for “Sitting like a tiger before jumping”).
We would like to invite you to our meditation practice! You will find a detailed introduction on the pages of the international Kwan Um School of Zen.
